Visuals

Humans are visual creatures—more than 50 percent of the surface of the brain is devoted to processing visual information.

When you incorporate live visuals in meetings and events, team members are more engaged, comprehend better, and remember more.

Not surprising: they’re using more of their brains!

And in this age of digital-all-the-things, nothing stands out more than handmade.

Here are some of the ways I use hand-drawn visuals to make you, your team, and your company more effective.

Graphic Recording

Graphic recording is large scale visual note-taking in real time. The large size of the charts makes ideas visible, reflects the whole, and mirrors the content and the process the group is going through.

Graphic Recording:

  • Fosters engagement and commitment
    • Participants feel acknowledged, so they contribute more fully
    • Live-recording is fascinating to watch!
    • People are more involved
  • Supports big-picture thinking
    • Graphic metaphors build shared meaning
    • Visualization supports BOTH seeing themes and seeing gaps
    • Large displays allow groups to work BOTH linearly and non-linearly, activating both sides of the brain
  • Supports group memory
    • Visual notes that combine drawings and graphic patterns boost memory retention
    • Group visualization enhances alignment because everyone walks away with a common picture
    • With digital reproductions, groups keep mind share and attention on agreements and action plans, increasing retention and productivity

Graphic Facilitation

Graphic Facilitation combines graphic recording, process design and meeting facilitation, and may include the use of templates (plus usually lots of sticky notes!) Instead of just watching as the visual is created by a graphic recorder, participants tend to take a more active role in co-creating a visual together, which could be a strategic plan, process, or anything else a team or group needs visualized. The end result is clarity, action plans, and often a sense of greater team cohesiveness from engaging in the process together.

Visual Bios

Looking for a unique way to stand out? My Visual Bio service tells your story in pictures. I’ll make visual notes of your story (or your offerings), in real time, and together we’ll connect the dots to determine what sets YOU apart, and what creates YOUR “uniquity,” whether in your current career, or where you’re headed.

Think:

  • clarity around what makes you unique and how you got there… or where your current path might lead you
  • a clear demonstration of the value of working with you… or using your product/service
  • a visual way to show how your career changes all work together, and have an underlying theme
  • a unique and fun way to demonstrate your career journey that will help others remember you and visualize your path… without telling a long story
  • a way to show how much you’ve accomplished… without the discomfort of “tooting your own horn”

All of this combined with a refreshing, memorable piece you can use on to stand out everywhere: website, speaking engagements, social media, in proposals, as an introductory email attachment, etc.
